In honor of the great Larry King, with respect and admiration, here's my own Larry King-style column. If it was the right day, his column was the first thing I read in the USA Today dropped outside my door on the road. Marriott Points, breakfast buffet, Larry King and a mint on the pillow. It didn't get any better than that.

When it comes to waffles, I'll take Belgian every time ... "Becker" is most underrated sitcom on TV ... Isn't it amazing how fast the grounds crew can get the tarp on the field? ... I'm again reminded that Dolly Parton can sing anything and I'm buying ... That John Grisham sure can spin a yarn ... How can they give you a parking ticket if they're still writing when you come back to the car? ... We've all got our vices. I can name all of Erica Kane's ex-husbands ... Hall of Shame, first ballot: Whoever invented the donut spare tire ... I'm a big news guy, but why do they go live to the poor freezing reporter standing in the dark outside a building we can't see to tell us what happened there 10 hours ago? ... I've never changed my own oil ... Why do you have to make the bed if you're sleeping in it again that night? ... The Patriots might really have found a quarterback in this young Tom Brady ... If Heather Headley doesn't win the Tony for best actress in a musical for her stunning turn in "Aida," they will have hit a sour note. Kramer should be ready to fill her seat ... No matter what happens, I'll always consider Roger Maris and Hank Aaron my home run kings ... The terrific "Cold Mountain" isn't an easy read, considering Charles Frazier's love of detail, but well worth your time ... Why do they even make 3.2-percent beer? ... The hardest job in sports broadcasting is hockey play-by-play on radio. I don't know how they do it ... Basketball play-by-play is easier because you can just gripe about the referees all game ... I don't get the backlash against Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go on." She can sing it all day long as far as I'm concerned ... The airline that does this first is going to get rich: Assign passengers numbers, not seats, and board in that order, leaving it up to them where to sit. Then give them peanuts ... Whatever happened to The Left Banke, Question Mark and the Mysterians, and The Cyrkle? ... Why do they leave only one mint on the pillow? I can eat five of 'em.
