The Avalanche is going to honor its 1996 Stanley Cup championship team with a celebration at the Paramount Theater in downtown Denver on December 10, and then also the next night at Colorado's home game against the Florida Panthers.

Of course, that storybook season, the hoist-the-Cup ending and parade all were part of Denver's first-ever major league championship in the first season after the franchise hurriedly was transplanted from Quebec to Colorado in the summer of 1995.  

 

In trying to capture the spirit of the thing, I'll offer up an excerpt from the "Pucks" section in my book, Playing Piano in a Brothel.
